The Wicked Wildfire Read-a-thon starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday June 24.
I really enjoyed the Bout of Books read-a-thon so I had to sign up for this one as well. My goals this time are pretty similar – get through some library books and review copies. I am gearing up for my Discover Australian Fantasy feature in July, so I’d like to get through as much of my review backlog as I can before the end of June. We’ll see how far I actually get!
My goal is to finish the books I’m currently reading and to read at least two additional books over the five days of the read-a-thon.
- Finish Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen
- Finish The Long Earth, Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter
- Ada Lovelace, Computer Wizard of Victorian England, Lucy Lethbridge
- Destiny of the Light, Louise Cusack
- Wither, Lauren DeStefano
I also plan to visit as many blogs as I can during or after the read-a-thon.
If you’re visiting as part of the read-a-thon, welcome! Have you put yourself on the Big Book Blogger Map yet?
I’ll be posting my daily reading updates here.
Updates
20th
Today’s progress: Water For Elephants, Sara Gruen – page 106 – 200 of 335 (94 pages)
Total number of books I’ve read: None yet!
Comments: I didn’t get much reading done today – my little boy has a cold and didn’t want to go to sleep for the night. Hopefully he will be a bit better tonight!
21st
Today’s progress: Finished Water For Elephants, Sara Gruen – page 201 to 335 (134 pages) + The Long Earth, Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter – 18% to 41% (about 77 pages) = 212 pages
Total number of books I’ve read: 1
Comments: Much better attempt today. I had to finish Water For Elephants at lunchtime – the ending was great 🙂 It’s quite a grim book at times but the circus stories make up for it.
The Long Earth at the moment is more like a collection of various stories with one main storyline popping up every few chapters. It’s getting a bit technical at times and my sleepy brain is having trouble grasping the concepts. It’s very interesting so far, anyway.
22nd
Today’s progress: The Long Earth, Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter – 41% to 73% (just over 100 pages)
Total number of books I’ve read: 1
Comments: The Long Earth thus far is mostly a philosophical imagining of what might happen if suddenly there were an enormous number of parallel Earths available for us to spread out on. It’s very interesting, but not super-exciting. I’m enjoying it, nevertheless.
23rd
Today’s progress: Finished The Long Earth, Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter (about 110 pages) and all of Ada Lovelace: Computer Wizard of Victorian England, Lucy Lethbridge (81 pages of rather large font)
Total number of books I’ve read: 3
Comments: Okay, today I cheated a little by throwing in Ada Lovelace since it’s a children’s book and extremely short, but I borrowed it from the library a couple of weeks ago and had to throw it in somewhere! It was quite sweet – a very good retelling of the events of her life.
The cold I’ve had coming on for a couple of days has finally hit me today so I’m not sure how much I’m going to get read over the rest of the weekend…
24th
Today’s progress: Destiny of the Light, Louise Cusack – the first 21% (about 95 pages).
Total number of books I’ve read: 3
Comments: It was a busy day today plus I have a cold, so I didn’t get a whole lot read, but when my little one wouldn’t go to sleep tonight I sat in there with him and got quite a bit of reading time after all! Very enjoyable so far too!
Totals!
In total I read 3 whole books plus 21% of a fourth – approximately 700 pages. I’m quite pleased with that considering how busy my week ended up being! I hope everyone enjoyed the read-a-thon and met their goals 🙂
See you there! 🙂
