Such a peaceful scene, but that crack running across the sky is quite ominous, don’t you think?

Details

Title: A Corner of White (Goodreads)
Author:  Jaclyn Moriarty

Publisher: Pan Macmillan Australia, September 18, 2012.
Pre-order: Fishpond

A Corner of White is a book that evokes superlatives:

the vision is extraordinary,
the writing is poetic,
the characterisation deeply moving.

Madeleine Tully lives in Cambridge, England, the World – a city of spires, Isaac Newton and Auntie’s Tea Shop.

Elliot Baranski lives in Bonfire, the Farms, the Kingdom of Cello – where seasons roam, the Butterfly Child sleeps in a glass jar, and bells warn of attacks from dangerous Colours.

They are worlds apart – until a crack opens up between them; a corner of white – the slim seam of a letter.

A mesmerising story of two worlds; the cracks between them, the science that binds them and the colours that infuse them.

Wow. Talk about a cover with some serious mixed signals! It is kind of like “Hey! It’s a rainbow! So pretty… Holy Cow man, run, the sky is cracking”. Yeah, anyway, I like it. I like not knowing what you are going to get when you start reading, and the possibility of finding out just what the significance of the cover is. Pretty cool.
