The Bout of Books is on again! It starts this coming Monday and there’s still plenty of time to sign up.
Here’s a bit of info about the read-a-thon:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 6.0 team
This will be the third BoB I’ve participated in and this time, I’m really looking forward to reading some books that have been on my pile for a while. I’ll be updating this post each day with my progress.
Make sure you visit the official blog to see all the events that will be going on around the blogs and on Twitter this week!
My Goals
- Comment on some participating blogs. I say this every time but it’s the most important part of the read-a-thon! Apart from the reading, that is.
- Read at least one book that has been on my shelf for a while, one review book and one library book. The list below is just a list – I have no intention of getting through all of them, a few of them are over 600 pages!
- Spend at least two hours each day reading.
Book list
Under the Never Sky, Veronica Rossi (review)Graceling, Kristin Cashore (borrowed)- Daughter of the Dark, Louise Cusack (my copy)
- Besieged, Rowena Cory Daniells (for review)
The Last Dragonslayer, Jasper Fford (library)- Mage’s Blood, David Hair (review)
The Gathering Dark, Leigh Bardugo (my copy)
Add-ins
Roar and Liv (Under the Never Sky #0.5), Veronica RossiThrough the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2), Veronica Rossi
Updates
7th
Today’s progress: Under the Never Sky, Veronica Rossi – page 60 to 376 (end).
Total pages so far: 316.
Comments: I certainly had trouble putting this book down, so.. I didn’t 🙂 I read for about 4 or 5 hours today, at lunch, on the train and at home after my Sproutling was asleep. Theoretically I cheated slightly by starting this book last night 😉 Awesome stuff!
8th
Today’s progress: Graceling, Kristin Cashore – pages 1 to 201.
Total pages so far: 517
Comments: I had a bit less time for reading today but still managed to fit in 3 hours or so. I was so looking forward to reading Graceling since so many people have recommended it to me, but so far, I’m not loving it. The romance is quite swoony though, and hopefully the action picks up in the second half.
9th
Today’s progress: Graceling, Kristin Cashore – pages 201 to 352 (end). Roar and Liv (Under the Never Sky #0.5) – 64 pages
Total pages so far: 732
Comments: I actually finished Graceling on my way home from work today, so I gave myself a night off. It didn’t work though – I couldn’t stay away from the Under the Never Sky novella and finished the whole thing. I love Roar, Perry and Liv! I’d love to start the second book tomorrow but I think I’ll have to write a review for UtNS first, otherwise I’ll get mixed up!
10th
Today’s progress: The Last Dragonslayer, Jasper Fford – pages 1 to 119
Total pages so far: 843
Comments: Only managed to spend a couple of hours reading in total today. Also, The Last Dragonslayer hasn’t grabbed me – it’s a bit Harry Potter wizarding world, but also rather silly and not always in a good way. Hopefully it’ll pick up soon.
11th
Today’s progress: The Last Dragonslayer, Jasper Fford – pages 120 to 281 (end). Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2), Veronica Rossi pages 1 to 60.
Total pages so far: 1064
Comments: The Last Dragonslayer… just didn’t do it for me. The story did get much more exciting as it went on, the characters were just a little flat. I got stuck straight into TtEN once I was finished – nice to be back with Perry and Aria and Roar 🙂
Getting a little reading burn out, but hopefully reading something I can’t put down will fix that!
12th
Today’s progress: Through the Ever Night (Under the Never Sky #2), Veronica Rossi pages 61 to 352 (end). The Gathering Dark, Leigh Bardugo 308 pages (end).
Total pages so far: 1663
Comments: Well, I fixed my burnout by getting through the rest of Through the Ever Night, then got stuck into The Gathering Dark so much that I finished the whole book. Fantastic stuff! I didn’t think I’d get much of a chance to read this weekend but it’s been an absolutely stinking hot one here so we’ve been bumming around at home in the air-con and trying not to move much!
13th
Today’s progress: Besieged, Rowena Cory Daniells – pages 1 to 90.
Total pages so far: 1753
Comments: I had a bit of a lighter reading day today but my little boy wouldn’t let me leave the room when he was going to sleep tonight so I got into this book. It’s a little different to read some epic fantasy after such a lot of YA – and quite telling when the first chapter is a bit harsh on my soft sensibilities. Harden up, Ang!
Overall I can’t believe how much I’ve managed to read this week! A true read-a-thon week for me! And now, I need a break!
good luck with your goals^^ i too put commenting in my objectives^^
Thanks Miki! Have fun 🙂
You have some great goals there Angelya! Commenting on blogs and getting to know new bloggers is one of the best bits of Bout of Books – I agree!
I’ve not read any of your books but Graceling has been highly recommend to me so I’m curious to know what you think if you read it!
Good luck with the read-a-thon 🙂
Thanks Faye! Have a good one!
I have gone for mostly short books to make me feel like I am achieving more! Maybe one time I will just vow to read one mammath book.

To be honest it’s not a bad idea… perhaps it would be a good time to re-read LotR or get stuck into a Sanderson 😛
Great goals! Unfortunatly, I haven’t read the books you will be reading. I heard Graceling was really good. Like you I chose some thick books… Good luck! This will be my first Read a thon! So excited…just wondering if you have any tips? 🙂

Thanks for the cheering! I’m having a great week this time 😉
I bought an eBook copy of The Gathering Dark a while ago but just haven’t quite got round to reading it yet…you reading it all in one day is as good a recommendation as any!
Also, nearly TWO THOUSAND pages?! I’ve been congratulating myself on reading two books :-p Seriously, though, that’s awesome!

Thanks Charlotte! I definitely recommend The Gathering Dark! It’s rather similar to other YA fantasies out there at the moment but I really loved it 🙂
